When to use it
Use a comment-to-DM automation when a post, Reel, or launch asks people to comment a word like link, guide, shop, recipe, or list. The public comment creates intent. The DM gives them the link without making you reply by hand all day.
Steps
- 1Open Dashboard, then Automations.
- 2Click New automation.
- 3Choose the auto-DM links from comments template, or start a custom workflow with an Instagram comment trigger.
- 4Choose the connected Instagram account.
- 5Pick whether the automation should watch selected content or any eligible post or Reel.
- 6Add the comment keywords that should trigger the automation.
- 7Write the public reply if you want one.
- 8Write the DM and attach the Smart link people asked for.
- 9Save the automation.
- 10Test with a real-looking comment before publishing.
- 11Turn the automation on when the DM, public reply, and Smart link all look right.
Keyword tips
- Use short words people can spell from memory.
- Add common variants like link, links, guide, list, code, price, and shop when they fit.
- Avoid one-letter triggers unless you want accidental sends.
- Do not require exact punctuation. People comment fast and weird.
- Use a specific keyword for giveaways or launches so normal comments do not trigger the flow.
DM tips
- Send the thing first. Save the long pitch for later.
- Use a Smart link so country routing, device behavior, and analytics stay attached.
- Keep the DM short enough to read without opening a wall of text.
- Use a button when the next action is a tap.
- Test the Smart link on mobile before sending traffic to it.
