How to recover started product checkouts

Use checkout-started triggers, a delay, and an email to follow up with buyers who began checkout but did not finish.

What triggers it

The Digital product checkout started trigger fires for pending paid checkouts. It is built for abandoned-cart style workflows, so add a delay before emailing.

Use the template

  1. 1Open Dashboard, then Automations.
  2. 2Choose Custom workflow.
  3. 3Pick the Abandoned cart recovery template.
  4. 4Open the Checkout started trigger.
  5. 5Choose any product or selected products.
  6. 6Adjust the Delay step. The template waits 2 hours.
  7. 7Open Send Email and edit the subject, preview text, and body.
  8. 8Keep {{product_url}} in the email so the buyer can return to the product page.
  9. 9Save, test, and publish the workflow.

Keep it human

  • Do not email instantly. Give the buyer time to finish on their own.
  • Use one clear link back to the product page.
  • Avoid pretending you know why they left checkout.
  • Tag recovered or abandoned-cart contacts only when that tag will help future follow-up.
