How to generate and edit an automation with AI

Before you start

• AI workflow generation and editing require Starter or Growth and available AI credits. Credit use varies with the request; there is no fixed number of credits per draft.
• You can draft before connecting Instagram. Connect the intended professional account and resolve its permissions before publishing or starting a live Instagram test.
• For this example, save your planner destination as a Link named Weekly workout planner. The workflow will reply to an Instagram DM containing PLAN, share the planner, and add a Planner requested tag.
• Generation saves a draft. You choose when to publish it.

Generate a workflow draft

1. Open Dashboard, then Automations.
2. Choose New automation, then Generate with AI.
3. In What should happen?, describe the trigger, message, destination, and follow-up. Add any branches or waits you need. A prompt can contain up to 50,000 characters.
4. Try this prompt: When someone sends PLAN in an Instagram DM, reply: Here is the weekly workout planner. Add a button labeled Get the planner that uses my saved Weekly workout planner Link. Then add the tag Planner requested and end the workflow. If that Link is missing, leave the destination for me to select.
5. Optionally choose Add reference images, or paste or drop workflow screenshots into the dialog. You can also generate from screenshots without a written prompt.
6. Choose Generate draft. Once the request is accepted, the dialog closes and the Creating your workflow… banner tracks progress. You can leave the page or close the browser while it runs.
7. When the draft is ready, choose Open draft in the banner. Review the saved canvas before publishing.

Use readable workflow screenshots

• Attach up to four still PNG, JPG/JPEG, or WebP images. Each image can be up to 3 MB and 40 megapixels; all images together can be up to 3.5 MB. Export PDFs, HEIC files, GIFs, or animated images to a supported still format first.
• Keep step labels, message text, and connecting lines readable. For a large workflow, use overlapping captures and describe any hidden branches in the prompt.
• Use the prompt to explain changes to the reference, such as replacing its keyword with PLAN and its destination with Weekly workout planner. When text and images conflict, the written instructions take priority.
• Reference images guide the workflow structure. They are not attachments sent in its messages, and they do not transfer accounts, contacts, or credentials from another tool.

Revise with the AI workflow assistant

1. Open the workflow canvas and choose AI assist to open the AI workflow assistant.
2. If you want to add steps after a particular step, select it first and keep Append after selected step on.
3. Describe one clear change, add reference images, or use both. The same prompt and image limits apply.
4. For the planner workflow, try: Change only the button label from Get the planner to Open my planner. Keep the PLAN Instagram DM trigger, message text, Weekly workout planner Link, Planner requested tag, step order, and end unchanged.
5. Choose Apply edit to prepare a proposal in the background. This does not immediately change the canvas.
6. When it is ready, choose Review changes in the banner. Inspect the proposed changes, then choose Apply changes to save them to the draft. Choose Review later to keep the proposal for later.
7. If you edited the canvas while the proposal was being prepared, review those newer edits before confirming their replacement. Check the resulting draft again before publishing.

Check the draft before publishing

1. Confirm the trigger and keyword. In this example, an incoming Instagram DM containing PLAN should start the workflow.
2. Read the message, open the button settings, and select the real Weekly workout planner Link. If the destination is missing or ambiguous, choose it yourself. Do not keep a guessed URL.
3. Follow every connection and branch. Confirm that Planner requested is added after the message and that the path ends where you expect.
4. Open the editor's overflow menu and choose Check. Resolve setup errors, including missing account connections or resource selections.
5. Use Preview to inspect the message presentation. Test is a separate live Instagram DM test, so start it only when you are ready for that interaction.
6. When the workflow is ready, choose Publish workflow on desktop or Publish on mobile, then complete the publishing review. Applying an AI edit does not publish it.

If generation cannot finish

• If an image is rejected, check its format, dimensions, and file size. Crop or resize it while keeping the workflow readable.
• If submission fails before acceptance, the dialog keeps your prompt and images so you can fix the problem and retry. After acceptance, use the progress banner and its Try again or Review AI credits action when offered.
• Wait for one job to finish if you already have three running. Completed AI calls can use credits even when the overall request fails, so do not assume a retry is free.
