Manage tags from the contact sidebar

  1. 1Open a conversation in Inbox, expand its contact sidebar, and choose Manage tags under Contact Tags.
  2. 2Under Assigned tags, choose Remove beside any tag you want to remove from this contact. Other contacts keep that tag, and it remains available to add again.
  3. 3To add a tag, search for an existing tag or type a new name. For a new tag, choose a folder or create one, then choose Add tag.
  4. 4Each change saves right away. The dialog stays open for more changes; choose Done to close it. If a request fails, the tag stays unchanged and an error appears so you can retry.

Add tags or custom field values in bulk

  1. 1Use the checkboxes in Inbox to select conversations, or the header checkbox to select all loaded conversations. Scroll to load more; existing selections stay checked. Changing filters clears the selection.
  2. 2Choose Add tag, search for a saved tag or enter a new name and folder, then choose Add tag. Existing tags stay in place.
  3. 3Choose Add custom field, select an active field, enter the value, and choose Apply. This replaces the current value for that field on each selected contact. Other fields stay unchanged. If there are no fields, use Manage Custom Fields in a contact's sidebar to create one first.
  4. 4Each contact is included once, even if several selected conversations belong to them. Opening the dialog freezes the selected conversations. Changes save in batches of up to 250 contacts, and a success message reports the number updated. Changes and pending automation events save together. Triggered automations continue in the background, with automatic retries for temporary processing failures, so you can continue after saving without waiting for their messages or AI steps.
  5. 5If a request fails, the dialog keeps your input. Keep it open and retry the same change to skip completed batches. Each batch saves completely or stays unchanged. If the connection drops after saving, that batch may already be complete; retrying an unconfirmed field change can trigger its automation again.
